Day 1: Getting Started at iFAST!

πŸ—“️ Date: 6 Oct 2025
πŸ“Œ Title: Getting started at iFAST!

Task Description

Today marked my first day of internship at the company. The day began with a newcomer briefing where I was introduced to the company, its structure, rules, and employee benefits by 3 HR staffs. Following that, I set up my Face ID for office access and went on an office tour to get familiar with the workspace. Before getting assigned to my desk, I was given a work laptop and asked to set it up, which included configuring my Outlook email, accessing the company intranet, and setting up iFast chat for communication. Additionally, I completed onboarding formalities such as checking emails, submitting required documents, and complete some mandatory quizzes like PDPA Training and IT Security Awareness Onboarding Training. Toward the end of the day, I received my first task: Converting web screens into mobile app screens for the iFast Global Bank Cash Dropdown feature. I also attended the weekly Monday team meeting, where each member shared task updates and progress.

Challenges & Solutions

One challenge was that downloading certain applications required admin authorisation. I had to file an OST request and wait for approval before proceeding. Another challenge was adapting to the MacBook setup, as I am not a Mac user. The laptop also had some technical issues, the type-C port on the right side did not function, and the left ports were loose, causing frequent connection problems. The connected mouse was lagging and unresponsive. My supervisor provided a Magic Mouse, but it was still delayed. After some experimentation, I managed to improve usability by adjusting the mouse speed to the fastest setting. This made it more manageable and less frustrating, though the laptop still occasionally lags.

Key Learnings & Skills Gained

Today reminded me that beginnings are often the hardest part of any journey. Starting something new means stepping out of my comfort zone, adapting to new environments, and learning to handle unexpected challenges. I learned to be more patient and resilient when facing technical or unfamiliar situations. I also gained practical knowledge in navigating company systems such as Outlook, iFast Chat, and the intranet, while becoming more familiar with using a MacBook and troubleshooting minor issues.

Reflection & Next Steps

Overall, Day 1 was an informative and productive start to my internship journey. While the technical difficulties were frustrating, they taught me patience and problem-solving in a real-world office setting. Moving forward, I plan to become more efficient with MacOS and focus on understanding the workflow for UI/UX design conversion tasks. My next step is to complete the Cash Dropdown mobile screen conversion and ensure my tools are fully functional for smoother progress in the coming days.
