Day 12: Mockups, Meetings, and Language Challenges

 🗓️ Date: 23 Oct 2025

📌 Title: Mockups, Meetings, and Language Challenges

Task Description

Today, I sent the mockup link for the MCCA project to the person-in-charge and attended a meeting with her to review it. The discussion followed UKT standards, and she spoke primarily in Cantonese. Although I can understand Cantonese, I’m not fluent in speaking it yet, so I focused on listening carefully, picking up key words, and trying my best to follow along.

Later, my supervisor provided additional guidance on the iFAST Pay Back Office project, briefing me on the next steps, priorities, and expectations for upcoming tasks.

Challenges & Solutions

The main challenge was the language barrier during the meeting. I overcame this by actively listening, taking notes, and focusing on context clues to understand the discussion, while also trying to improve my Cantonese comprehension for future meetings.

Another challenge was keeping track of multiple projects simultaneously. I addressed this by organising my tasks clearly and prioritising actions based on deadlines and supervisor guidance.

Key Learnings & Skills Gained

I learned how to communicate effectively even with language limitations and the importance of active listening in professional meetings. I also gained better clarity on the back office project workflow and how to integrate ongoing tasks with other projects like MCCA.

Reflection & Next Steps

Day 12 reinforced the value of patience, adaptability, and continuous learning—both in language skills and project management. Moving forward, I plan to follow up on feedback from the MCCA mockup and start implementing the next phase of the Back Office interface while improving my Cantonese comprehension for smoother communication.
