πŸ“Œ Title: Banner Struggles, Differing Perspectives & Seeking Help

Task Description

Started the day with a good news. Vanessa (PIC for FTD & ND revamp) said the web and mobile interfaces are ready to be developed. I informed a project manager so he could arrange resources to develop this project. My SV had informed him beforehand so he was aware on this matter.

Besides, today was a big focus on refining the banner design for the Cash ISA Transfer-In flow. During a call with Simon (the big boss), he mentioned that the icon used in the banner looked too heavy for Cash ISA. I changed the icon to a simpler version, but he still felt that the banner looked “weird.”

From my perspective, this banner acts as an entry point for Cash ISA Transfer-In, rather than a promotional banner. Most existing banners are promotional in nature and contain more content, which naturally makes them look fuller. In contrast, I felt that an entry-point banner should be cleaner and less crowded. However, aligning on this interpretation proved to be challenging.

Recognizing that I was stuck, I reached out to my SV for guidance. He gave me useful ideas and even helped me design an alternative banner together, which we planned to propose to Simon in the evening meeting later that day.

Challenges & Solutions

The main challenge was balancing my own design rationale with stakeholder expectations, especially when feedback was subjective and not very specific. To address this, I sought input from my SV instead of pushing through alone. Having a second perspective and an alternative design helped turn uncertainty into actionable options.

Key Learnings & Skills Gained

I learned that design decisions often involve differing viewpoints, especially between designers and business stakeholders. I also gained experience in defending design intent while remaining open to feedback and collaboration. Most importantly, I learned when to ask for help instead of overthinking on my own.

Reflection & Next Steps

Today taught me that struggling with design does not mean failure, it's part of the process. I am grateful for my SV's support and mentorship, which helped me gain clarity and knowledge.
