Day 53: Logo Hunt and Half-day Recovery

πŸ“Œ Title: Logo Hunt and Half-day Recovery

Task Description

Today brought a challenging update, the Business User insisted on including bank logos, despite our earlier recommendation to avoid them due to the high volume and ongoing maintenance.

To manage the workload, my SV and I split the 90+ logos into two halves, meaning each of us handled about 45 logos. Our task was to find SVG versions of each bank logo, and then edit them in Adobe Illustrator to standardise the background and size.

We also had a call to standardise sizing so the logos would look consistent in the UI. During the process, we discovered that financial institutions often do not provide SVG versions, making it difficult to source them. In such cases, we agreed to use PNG formats instead, ensuring the logo remains usable and clear.

Unfortunately, I was feeling quite unwell today with a sore throat, so I took a half day off (PM leave) to rest and recover.

Challenges & Solutions

The biggest challenge was the sheer volume of logos and the difficulty in obtaining clean SVG assets. Splitting the workload and agreeing on a standard size helped streamline the process. Using PNGs for logos without SVG versions was a practical compromise to keep the project moving.

Another challenge was working while unwell, which impacted energy and productivity. Taking half-day leave helped me rest and avoid worsening the condition.

Key Learnings & Skills Gained

I learned how to standardise a large number of assets, and gained experience in Adobe Illustrator editing for UI consistency. I also learned that not all brands provide SVG assets, and that sometimes practical compromises (like PNG) are necessary.

Reflection & Next Steps

Day 53 reinforced that stakeholder decisions can change project scope significantly, and being adaptable is crucial. Next steps are to continue sourcing and standardising the remaining logos, and to finalize the logo set for the Cash ISA UI once all assets are prepared.
